Chelsea have ‘gone all out’ to sign Sergiño Dest from Barcelona and are ready to pay a fee to sign him this month.
That’s according to Sport, who say the Catalan giants will assess any offers for the American following Dani Alves’ return to the club.
They’re stepping up their efforts to get rid of players in this transfer market, with the priority to find a place for players they don’t intend to play or those they consider ‘expendable’.
One of those is Dest, who is ‘highly valued’ on the market and could lose prominence under Xavi thanks to Alves’ return.
He was on Bayern’s radar, but it is Chelsea who have ‘approached’ Barcelona to ask what conditions they would need for a transfer and will go ‘all out’ if Dest is allowed to leave.
The Blues need a versatile full-back, and their ‘number one target’ is Dest. They believe that Barcelona are making a mistake with the player who is making great progress and see him as a ‘market opportunity’.
The player’s priority is to stay at Barcelona as he is convinced he will eventually earn his place in the starting line-up once he recovers from physical issues.
However, the emergence of Chelsea could change those plans as they are a ‘top-level club’ and will be in the running to win ‘all the important titles’.
Barcelona’s idea, meanwhile, is to recoup the investment they made in the player so they will not sell him for less than €20m. They are ‘willing to talk’ on that, though, as their need for money is great.
There are those who believe selling Dest would be a mistake that they will end up paying for, but that need for money could see him end up at Stamford Bridge.
