Despite not having won the battle to sign Jules Koundé from Sevilla a couple of years ago, it seems Chelsea could soon get another chance to land the defender.
That’s today said by the Catalan media, with Mundo Deportivo claiming that he’s one of the players who Barcelona could sell in the summer.
Since the Camp Nou side are in a delicate financial situation, they’re set to analyse offers that come for their stars, and Koundé is one of the candidates to leave.
Mundo Deportivo recall that Chelsea got ‘very close’ to signing the Frenchman in the past, and are now one of the main suitors for the transfer, along with Manchester United.
Koundé was recently adapted to the right-back position and Barcelona are pleased with the professionalism he’s shown despite the change. Still, if an offer arrived that would allow them to ‘recover the investment made’, they could end up taking it.
Barça spent €50m to sign Koundé from Sevilla, so that’s the amount they seem to be talking about. Now their urge for money may also be the reason why the Catalan media is bringing up these stories about Chelsea’s interest, and we’ll see if the Blues will actually make a move for the signing.
