Back when Nicolo Barella was still an emerging star at Cagliari in 2019, Chelsea were keen to sign him.
Sport Witness covered the news from Italy at the time, but the player ended up choosing to stay in Italy, eventually signing for Inter.
He has since developed into one of the best players at the club, gaining experience at the highest level his country has to offer, picking up a Serie A title in the process.
That’s why it could be that he considers a move abroad as his next step, and, luckily for him, Chelsea are still lurking.
This comes courtesy of La Repubblica, relayed by FC Inter News, who explain Inter have ‘not let go’ of the idea of signing Davide Frattesi from Sassuolo, who, together with Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister, is seen as a ‘possible replacement’ for Barella.
That’s because the 25-year-old is ‘especially popular in the Premier League’, with Chelsea said to be ‘in the front row’.
The problem for Inter, which, in turn, could be an issue for the Blues, is that Frattesi’s dream at the moment ‘is to return’ to AS Roma.
If he can be convinced otherwise, though, that could open the door for Chelsea to make a move for Barella.
