Ever since Thomas Tuchel tried to sign Denzel Dumfries in the summer, the idea that Chelsea could make a move for him has never disappeared.
There have been multiple articles written on the subject, with the vast majority of them suggesting that Inter could be open to striking a deal in January as long as the Dutchman was loaned back to them.
This doesn’t appear to be something that Chelsea want to do, since they would like to add a right-back in the next transfer window.
Still, Inter have to sell an important player by next summer, which opens the door for the Blues for a future transfer.
Calciomercato cover the situation on Tuesday, explaining the Serie A side still don’t want to let him go in January, and that is why ‘work for a €50/60m sale’ will only start in the summer.
This is where Chelsea come in, as the World Cup has helped boost the player’s status a bit, but the Blues ‘are in the front row’ and are hoping to ‘play the Lukaku card’ to their advantage.
The Belgian is currently on loan at Inter from Stamford Bridge, and we all know he wants to stay there beyond the current season, meaning talks will have to take place in the near future about that.
Thus, in turn, Dumfries can be discussed, and Chelsea could use those talks to strike a deal with their now very close counterparts.
