It’s not really a secret anymore, but Chelsea are on the lookout for a new centre-back ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Thomas Tuchel appears to want an extra body at the heart of his defence, and while Dayot Upamecano was an option for a while, he’s now off to Bayern Munich.

With the Frenchman no longer on the market, the German manager has turned his attention elsewhere, with Ibrahima Konaté the chosen one.

He didn’t have to look far, mind, since they’re both at RB Leipzig, but following reports from SportBild on Friday, France Football appear to back up said interest.

The French magazine explain Konaté has ‘caught the eye’ of Chelsea, and the Blues are ‘following very closely’ the player’s progress, ‘thinking about him for next season’.

That’s all there is, but it seems they have had the interest of Tuchel confirmed, meaning we could end up with an interesting saga in the summer, as other Premier League clubs have also taken note.
