Chelsea and Inter Milan could re-enter negotiations once again this summer, albeit this time over a deal for Trevor Chalobah.
That’s according to Sky Italia, relayed by Spazio Inter, who say the Champions League finalists can now move for the Chelsea man after selling Robin Gosens to Union Berlin.
With that deal now done, Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has set to work on adding two new profiles to the squad for the back line, Carlos Augusto, a defender from Monza, and Chalobah from Chelsea.
The latter is closer than the former at this moment in time, with Sky explaining that the ‘consolidated relationship’ between the two clubs has opened the door to a deal.
Those in charge at Inter and Chelsea have a strong relationship thanks to the numerous negotiations over Romelu Lukaku and that’s helping speed along a possible move for Chalobah.
According to Sky’s information, it was the player’s entourage who proposed him to the Nerazzurri again, after previous talks earlier in the transfer window.
Chalobah is aware he faces a season on the sidelines at Chelsea after another summer of big spending and would like to join a team that can guarantee him playing time and progression.
To date the negotiations have only been over a loan with an obligation to buy so far, with Chelsea valuing the defender at €20-25m.
Whether Inter will agree to that remains to be seen, with their financial situation meaning they’re keen to not be tied down to such obligations and focusing on low-cost deals again this summer.
Chalobah is on their list, though, and he’s very much keen on the move, having re-opened talks with the Italians via his agents and there is a belief that any deal could be done ‘within a few days’.
