Spanish side Valencia are eyeing up a move for Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater as the expected exodus from Stamford Bridge begins.

The Blues have spent big this summer and with the squad now seemingly finalised, attention has turned to moving on players Frank Lampard does not want.

Ross Barkley has already joined Aston Villa on loan, and it seems his fellow countryman Drinkwater could be heading out too.

According to Radio Esport Valencia, Valencia are assessing a loan deal for the Chelsea midfielder as they look to strengthen their squad before the end of the transfer window.

Javi Gracia’s side have seen several big-name departures already this summer, with the club undergoing extreme cost-cutting measures amid a financial crisis.

That has seen a growing list of first-team stars leaving, particularly in midfield, with Dani Parejo and Francis Coquelin already shipped out.

They have been chasing a new midfielder to replace them, with links to Watford’s Etienne Capoue and Leicester City’s Adrien Silva.

Drinkwater can now be added to the list, with Radio Esport stating that they are keen on a loan deal.

It’s explained that because Chelsea are willing to pay part of his wages and there would be no purchase clause included, the deal is seen as an ideal ‘cheap’ option that suits Valencia down to the ground.

The radio station doesn’t state that a bid has been made, or that there will be, just that the La Liga side ‘assess’ a possible transfer, meaning this is one to keep an eye on as it could develop over the next week.
