On March 12th, Sport reported Chelsea are keen on signing Jules Koundé and Barcelona are ready to sacrifice him in the summer window.
Xavi Hernández has used him as a centre-back and a right-back this season as Koundé has made 41 appearances, managing two goals and four assists in the process.
The defender is a ‘pillar’ at the Camp Nou and his versatility ‘makes him attractive’ for the Premier League sides, where Chelsea are one of his contenders.
That’s at least what Sport.fr are reporting, and add that the Blues ‘dream’ of signing the 25-year-old in the next window.
The former Sevilla man’s deal lasts until 2027, but his future at Barcelona seems to be uncertain.
Chelsea are showing interest in securing the France international’s services, but they aren’t alone as the report states Manchester United are also interested in him. The latter, however, are also looking at other options in the market.
There’s no mention if Koundé is open to leaving Barca after this season. Prior to joining them from Sevilla in 2022, the west London club came close to acquiring his signature.
Sevilla had then confirmed a verbal agreement was reached with Chelsea, before the deal collapsed. Koundé also revealed he held talks with Thomas Tuchel, but picked Barca after Xavi convinced him to join them.
The manager has announced his decision to leave the Camp Nou and with Chelsea keen on signing Koundé, it remains to be seen whether he’ll change clubs in the summer.
