Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today shares an update on Chelsea’s chase for Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande.
The outlet comes up to say that even though the Blues’ interest in the centre-back ‘remains strong’, they’re unlikely to try to sign him this month.
It’s said that Chelsea know they’ll have Thiago Silva for at least six more months, so they’re calm about the timing to go for Diomande.
There’s another reason to wait, and that’s the price for the signing. The Blues are aware that Sporting won’t let the player go for less than his €80m release clause in the coming days, and are not willing to spend that much.
O Jogo says the negotiations could ‘simplify’ in the summer, and that’s exactly when Chelsea should start making their attempts.
The newspaper points out that Diomande isn’t the only Sporting player who the Blues have been following, as centre-back Gonçalo Inácio and striker Viktor Gyokeres are both attracting their attention as well.
So maybe there’s a lot for Chelsea and the Lions to talk about in the summer, as the revolution at Stamford Bridge continues under Todd Boehly.
