Roony Bardghji’s development at FC Copenhagen has drawn Chelsea’s attention, as per Tipsbladet.
The 17-year-old joined the Danish club from Malmö FF in 2020, and after spending over a year with their youth team, he made his first team debut in November 2021.
Bardghji was mainly used as a substitute last season before starting to enjoy more game time in the league this season. He has seven goals from 14 league games and his displays have pleased Chelsea.
It’s even claimed the Blues have been ‘crazy’ about him and it may not be long before they knock on Copenhagen sporting director Peter Christiansen’s door for a potential deal.
On November 15th, the winger will turn 18 years of age, and the report says Copenhagen will have an opportunity to tie him down to a long-term deal. His current deal lasts until 2025, so doesn’t give great protection.
It will also make him eligible to switch to the UK.
Amid interest from Chelsea, former Everton midfielder Thomas Gravesen has urged the Danish club to retain the Swede.
“Why should a 17-year-old player with such great potential be sold? He must not be sold until he has proven that he can cost DKK 60 or 70m [€8-€9.3m]. You must not sell a star. You come to that, almost regardless of what he has delivered,” he told Discovery, relayed by Tipsbladet.
“Well, shouldn’t he cost 100m? If he plays against Manchester United and scores two goals. If he plays against Galatasaray and scores two goals. Yes, then he will cost DKK 100m [€13.4m].”
Chelsea’s interest in the youngster isn’t new and the club had looked at the possibility of signing him in 2021. It’ll be interesting to see if they take the necessary steps to try to secure his services in the upcoming windows.
