Atlético Madrid are waiting for Chelsea to make their moves in the transfer window, so the Spanish side can know how they could react to it. That’s because one of Diego Simeone’s biggest desires is to sign back Diego Costa, who could be departing from the Blues this summer.
As the speculation regarding Gonzalo Higuaín and Álvaro Morata grows, the possibilities of Costa’s return start becoming more real. So Spanish newspaper AS have an article today saying Atlético wait for a ‘domino effect” in London.
According to AS, Antonio Conte would have no problems with counting on Costa for next season. But, to welcome the Italian manager to the Stamford Bridge, Roman Abramovich would like to make a big signing, or two, as a gift to the new boss, and the Brazilian could end up discarded after these arrivals.
The Atletico board have reportedly put other names on the table, but Diego Simeone still wants his old number nine back, so the club will now wait to make a move. AS says it’s very unlikely that they could buy Costa back for less than the €38m they sold him in 2014.
Atletico reportedly expect the negotiations to be complicated, especially because of how hard Chelsea made it for them to re-sign Filipe Luís last year.
Costa reportedly wants to return, but the summer business will all be dictated by Chelsea’s decisions.
