On Friday, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri stated Chelsea are one of the clubs in the mix to sign Southampton’s Roméo Lavia.

The midfielder has starred for the Saints since he joined them last summer and his fine displays have been rewarded with the first call-up from Belgium for this month’s international break.

Saturday’s Het Nieuwsblad has a detailed report on the 19-year-old’s career, starting from his time at Anderlecht. Towards the end, they discuss his suitors and that’s when Chelsea are mentioned.

Southampton invested €14m in signing the teenager from Manchester City. The Citizens have an option to buy him back for €46m or can earn 20% of the fee from his future sale. He has ‘undergone an enormous evolution’ in a short period of time at Southampton.

This is evident with Lavia’s selection in the Belgium squad and also with Chelsea keeping close tabs on him.

It’s claimed the Blues have the player on their radar because they have ‘concrete interest’ in him.

That’s all the newspaper has to say about Chelsea’s interest in Lavia.
