Chelsea are close to completing the signing of Vasco da Gama wonderkid Andrey Santos, according to claims from Brazil.

UOL writes that the deal is ‘very well forwarded’, with the player already expected for a medical and contract signature.

According to the report, the amount for the transfer is already agreed, but is being kept secret by both Chelsea and Vasco. The clubs are still discussing whether the player should move in January or afterwards.

It’s highlighted by UOL that Andrey Santos’ potential has been watched by European scouts for a long time. Premier League sides Liverpool and Newcastle United had already shown their interest in the player, but it’s really the Blues who are about to win the race for the signing.

The youngster’s contract with Vasco included a €50m release clause, and there was even gossip that the Magpies would pay that much. However, it’s a lot more likely Chelsea won’t get close to that, given that he’s still 18-years-of-age and wasn’t even tested in Brazil’s top flight, since Vasco played in the second division last year.
