Earlier this month, Sport reported Chelsea have joined Barcelona in the battle to sign Real Valladolid’s Iván Fresneda.
On Friday, the same outlet explained that the Blues could make an offer for the right-back and that has resulted in some ‘tension’ at the Camp Nou.
Saturday’s Mundo Deportivo states Chelsea are now the ‘best placed’ team to sign the 18-year-old.
Xavi Hernández’s side have accelerated their efforts to sign Manchester City defender João Cancelo.
Despite this, Mundo add Fresneda’s name is still on the table at the Camp Nou. It’s said the youngster is ‘in a hurry’ and wants to know Barca’s plans for him by the start of next week.
Online, Mundo Deportivo have provided additional updates on this case. They say Chelsea would sign the teenager then loan him out.
Barcelona are also trying to sign him through the same formula and the report states the Spain U19 international would accept it. However, their offer of €8m plus bonuses hasn’t convinced Real Valladolid.
Fresneda’s current release clause is set at €20m. Mundo state Real Valladolid would be willing to let go of him for €10m plus bonuses.
This would certainly please Chelsea, who are now the ‘best placed’ team to sign the fullback.
