Chelsea are ‘determined’ to buy a club in Portugal, according to reports from the local media.
Outlet Mais Futebol today writes that the Blues are counting on the help of Jorge Mendes to find their ideal target.
The Gestifute owner is said to be ‘in the initial process of prospecting’, and there are two clubs ‘studied with greater attention’ for now. Those are Rio Ave and Moreirense.
Mais Futebol claims more options will be analysed in the coming weeks. It’s said that after knowing of Chelsea’s intention, Portimonense even made a move themselves to ‘discuss a project together’, but that didn’t arouse the interest from the Blues.
It’s claimed that the relationship between Todd Boehly and Jorge Mendes got stronger during the transfers of João Felix and Enzo Fernández in January, as both moves were intermediated by the Portuguese agent.
What’s interesting is that the story makes it very clear it’s Chelsea who are buying a new club, and not just Boehly making a new acquisition in Europe.
The Blues are said to be looking for a partner in Portugal where they can ‘adapt and explore possible reinforcements’ for the squad, besides making interchanges of players.
