Chelsea and Aston Villa ‘are moving’ for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

That’s according to journalist Niccolò Ceccarini, and he covers Chelsea and Aston Villa’s interest in the 29-year-old in his column for TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Serie A side are working on hiring a sporting director while some of their players are on the market.

This includes the France international, who hasn’t signed a new contract despite reaching an agreement in principle.

Chelsea and Aston Villa can take advantage of his situation at the San Siro and already gathered information about him, ahead of potential concrete approaches. The journalist claims the two English clubs could decide to ‘move more concretely’ for the stopper in the summer window.

The Rossoneri came from behind to settle for a 2-2 draw against Fiorentina on Saturday. After the tie, Maignan spoke to Sky Sport, where they quizzed him about his future and renewal. Calciomercato have relayed his comments.

“As I said, I feel good at Milan, I give everything for the shirt every time I put it on, every day. At this moment I tell the truth, I don’t want to talk about the contract, I want to talk about football,” he said.

“Milan deserves more, we want more. My personal case is not the most important thing at this moment.”

The Frenchman kept 11 clean sheets and conceded 52 goals from 44 games this season.

Emiliano Martínez is No.1 for Unai Emery and is likely to have the same role next season at Aston Villa, so that interest is clearly questionable.

Robert Sánchez had mixed performances for Chelsea this season and they could look for a new stopper. Maignan could be an option for the Blues.
