Chelsea are chasing Valencia left-back José Gayà, according to claims on Monday.

The claims don’t come from the English or Spanish press. It’s French outlet Soccer Link pushing the story.

They say Chelsea are ‘very interested’ in adding Gayà to their squad next summer. They refer to the chase as at the ‘stage of talks’ for now, and insist there’s some ‘real interest’ from the Blues.

Gayà was a solid piece of Valencia’s team last season, and made an assist in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.

The 24-year-old is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €50m, and has a contract with the La Liga side running until 2023.

There’s nothing in the Valencia or even the Spanish media on this rumour for now, but since it will probably spread in the next 24 hours, we’ll be keeping an eye on it.

Soccer Link reference Chelsea’s transfer ban, but with this potential signing being for next summer it wouldn’t have an impact. It makes sense for the Blues to have already started planning.
