Announced last summer as going to Manchester United for a very long time, Pedro eventually left Barcelona but ended up teaming up with José Mourinho at Chelsea.
Not exactly setting the league alight like a few expected him to, the Spanish winger did, however, finish the season relatively strongly, scoring five goals in his last 10 league appearances for the London club.
Leaving his childhood club to get more game time, Pedro will next season face Pep Guardiola, his former manager, who will officially be unveiled as Manchester City’s new manager on July 3rd, and he’s got a warning message for him.
Praised for revolutionising football at Bayern Munich, Guardiola will face a difficult task doing the same at his new club, but Pedro believes if one man can do it, it’s Pep.
He told Marca: “We’ll see how he does. It’s a difficult league, complicated. It’s going to be difficult for him to display his game, but we know he’s a great manager. It won’t be easy.
“He’s faithful to his ideas and can persuade the player to change their philosophy from playing direct football to a more elaborate one. We’ll see how he does in this first year.”
With Antonio Conte taking over at Chelsea, José Mourinho announced as Manchester United’s manager and Pep Guardiola reinventing Manchester City, the race for the title could be completely different to the one we witnessed last season.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but Guardiola will certainly need to be at the top of his game if he wants a shot at the Premier League title.
