Pep Guardiola and the entire Manchester City board will depart the club in 2025, when the Spanish coach’s contract comes to an end.
That’s according to Lu Martin, a ‘man very close’ to the Manchester City coach, who believes Guardiola’s time at the Etihad may be in the home stretch.
Martin has been speaking to El Bar de Sique about his friend Guardiola and his future plans at Manchester City, relayed by Fichajes.
Guardiola has been on charge of the Cityzens since 2016, taking charge of 426 games so far and wining a whole host of trophies, including the Champions League last season.
His current contract runs until 2025 after he signed a two-year extension to his previous deal in November last year.
It remains to be seen if he will extend his time at Manchester City beyond that point, with this his longest spell at a club so far after four years at Barcelona and three years at Bayern Munich.
He will have been at Manchester City for nine years should he see out his current deal, which, according to Lu Martin, he intends to do.
According to him he will depart the club ‘in no less than two years’, with a plan in place for Guardiola and the entire board above him to leave in 2025.
He reports that not only Guardiola will go but so will Txiki Begiristain, who has been at the Etihad since 2012, leading to a ‘change of cycle’ at the club according to Fichajes. It’s not clear if his deal also ends alongside Guardiola’s or if they’re just planning a system change across the board.
Either way changes is seemingly on the way and Fichajes say Manchester City will need to find a ‘generational replacement’ for the pieces that have ‘given meaning’ to the project under Sheikh Mansour.
