It seems Southampton had the chance to sign Etrit Berisha from Torino in the winter transfer window.
That’s today revealed by Italian outlet Tuttosport (via TuttoMercatoWeb), who today features a story about the player’s potential departure from Torino.
It’s claimed that it had always been a certainty that Berisha would leave the club in January, as at the end of the year, he made comments claiming he’d like to play more.
But according to the report, the chances of his move to Southampton ‘evaporated’ even before that possibility turned into negotiations between the clubs.
That’s why there are moves to make him join a Turkish club, as they still have their transfer window open there.
Torino are first looking to send him there until the end of the season, as that would allow them to save his salary, but the chances of a permanent departure aren’t ruled out.
This story is interesting because Southampton’s interest in Berisha hadn’t even been reported at the time, and it seems the Serie A side had been really keen on finding a deal for his departure.
