According to a claim in the Turkish media, Galatasaray have joined the race to sign Blackburn Rovers attacking midfielder Sammie Szmodics.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from Ewood Park in recent weeks and along with Galatasaray, Ipswich Town have also been reported to be interested in signing the player.
Fanatik have reported on Galatasaray’s interest in the Blackburn player as they look to add to their squad ahead of next season’s Champions League group stages.
It’s been well reported the Turkish champions want to bolster their midfield this summer after recent departures, they’ve been linked with a number of players from England.
However, it’s claimed Galatasaray aren’t prepared to pay the €10m that is reportedly being requested for the Republic of Ireland international and subsequently they want to negotiate a lower transfer fee with Blackburn Rovers.
That stated asking price appears like wishful thinking from the Turkish media and it’s likely more would be asked for, so those negotiations may be rather quick indeed.
Szmodics made 48 appearances for Blackburn Rovers last season, scoring 33 goals. He’s contracted to the Championship side until June 2026, so there’s no panic over his contractual situation.
