It’s been well documented Galatasaray want to sign a central midfielder and Leeds United’s Ao Tanaka has now emerged as a target.
With the uncertainty over Gabriel Sara’s future, the Super Lig club have been linked with a number of players.
Sara could return to the UK, having moved to Gala following a two season spell with Norwich City. Leeds United have been credited with interest, along with other Premier League sides.
Earlier this month, Gala were looking to sign Manchester United’s Manuel Ugarte, due to his situation at Old Trafford. The Uruguayan wasn’t getting games under Ruben Amorim, and subsequently Cimbom had agreed personal terms with him.
However, with the recent managerial change at Manchester United, Ugarte looks set to remain with the Premier League club.
Leeds United midfielder on wishlist
Fanatik today report on Galatasaray’s continued search for a central midfielder, and they say the Leeds United player has been added to their wish list.
Gala are impressed with the Japan international’s defensive abilities and his comfort on the ball.
At this stage, there’s no indication if they will enter into transfer talks with Leeds United. There are also no reports of an offer being lined up by the Super Lig champions.
However, due to the Whilst fighting relegation it seems very unlikely they would let Tanaka leave during this transfer.
This would appear an ambitious idea from Galatasaray, and something they’ve been pressured into after missing other midfield targets.
Tanaka signed for Leeds United from Fortuna Düsseldorf in 2024 and in his first season helped his new club back to the Premier League. During that campaign he played 45 games as Daniel Farke’s side won the Championship.
This season he’s made 19 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals. Tanaka is contracted to Leeds United until June 2028. Maybe one to revisit in the summer.
