German side Mainz are rubbing their hands at the Jean-Philippe Mateta drama at Crystal Palace, as they’re set to benefit from his exit.
That’s according to BILD. The newspaper reports that the German side are delighted with a potential ‘windfall’ for the striker.
Mateta is currently pushing to leave Crystal Palace before the end of January. The Frenchman currently has AC Milan and Nottingham Forest vying for his signature.
Crystal Palace are demanding a top fee for the striker, with €46m the price being quoted in England at present. That figure has seen Mainz’s eyes light up.
They’re due to receive around €4m as an addition transfer fee from Crystal Palace if Mateta departs for such a figure. The German side negotiated a sell-on clause for Mateta when they sold him to Crystal Palace in 2021.
They’ll receive 10% of any amount Crystal Palace ern above the €14.5m the Eagles paid at the time. That was an original €3.5m loan fee and then €11m for the permanent transfer the following summer.
Depending on the final transfer fee, the cash register in Mainz ‘will ring accordingly’. Whether it’s quietly or loudly, remains to be seen. But either way, Mainz are delighted with the windfall.
In fact, BILD go as far as to say bosses at the club will be popping champagne corks. They certainly hadn’t expected the extra money to come pouring in. Now their eyes are on the final days of the window to see how much more they’ll get.
