The chairman of SPAL has told the Italian media he’s delighted they managed to sign Mirco Antenucci after he was released by Leeds United in the summer. The 31-year-old has been in impressive form for the Serie B side, including scoring a hat trick last night against Avellino.

TMW have reported on comments Walter Mattioli made to the Italian media in the aftermath of his club’s 3-0 victory. Mattioli said Antenucci has been good for the club because he’s a great player and person. The SPAL chief revealed since the former Leeds United star arrived at the club he’s had an influence on the squad, and shows his qualities everyday.

“Antenucci is a particular person, a great man before a great player. If it is not for his three goals, I look at what he does every day, his relationship with his teammates and I’m delighted he came to Ferrara,” said Mattioli

Antenucci spent two seasons at Elland Road following his move from Ternana in 2014, and was the top scorer at Leeds United in his first season in England. The Italian exited the club in May when his contract expired, and has since gone on record to criticise the Massimo Cellino regime.
