Aston Villa’s Philippe Coutinho has been out on loan since the summer of 2023, after Unai Emery has him out of his plans at Villa Park. He’s been with Vasco da Gama since July of last year and the deal expires on June 30th.

The attacking midfielder is a product of the Brazilian club’s youth system. Recent claims have stated Vasco da Gama want to extend his stay beyond this month.

On May 31st, the Aston Villa player said he’s not stressed about talks to extend contract with Vasco da Gama. Three days later, their CEO, Carlos Amodeo, stated they are waiting for his release from the Premier League club.

Amodeo has spoken to the Brazilian media about the 33-year-old again and ESPN in Brazil have relayed his comments.

He says Vasco da Gama have started negotiations with the former Liverpool man’s agent. There will be a break of close to a month after Friday’s fixtures in the Brazilian topflight and Amodeo expects the Coutinho case to be resolved when the league resumes.

“We talked about this, I had the opportunity to say that we want to keep Coutinho,” he said.

“He is a player who has been increasingly adapting to Brazilian football and the demands of the Brazilian football calendar.

“We have already started negotiations with his representative to conduct this process of a new contract.

“And we hope that this will happen naturally and that when the competition returns, he’ll already have a new contract signed with us and will continue to be part of our squad due to the technical importance he has for the group.”

Coutinho’s contract at Aston Villa lasts until 2026, and earlier claims stated he’s trying to find an agreement with Emery’s side to terminate the contract. If it fails, Vasco da Gama can try to agree a new loan deal with the Villans.
