Two days ago, we covered claims from Turkey that Celtic are keen on signing Trabzonspor goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır, and Brendan Rodgers has requested the possibility to have a conference call with him.
Çakır isn’t the only stopper on Celtic’s radar as they have also set their sights on Werder Bremen’s Michael Zetterer.
That’s according to Bild, who explain that there’s interest from Celtic in signing the 28-year-old.
The German has kept five clean sheets and conceded 27 goals from 21 games this season and has over a year left on his current deal.
Bild say he’s had a ‘successful season’ so far, and therefore, Werder Bremen want to extend his contract beyond 2025 and offer improved terms. The stopper is hesitant to accept and is keeping an eye on the transfer market, where Celtic have emerged as a candidate.
When asked about the contract renewal last month, he said: “I’m an athlete and very ambitious, so let’s see.”
Bild say it isn’t surprising that other clubs have taken notice of Zetterer’s fine displays and among these, the interest from Glasgow side is ‘now becoming more concrete’.
Celtic stopper Joe Hart has announced his decision to retire after this season and Brendan Rodgers’ side have to find a replacement for him in the next window.
It’s claimed Celtic like Zetterer’s qualities and his profile ‘fits perfectly’ to become Hart’s successor. BRodgers’ side now have to convert their interest into an offer, if they wish to bring the German to Celtic Park.
