Celtic signed Julián Araujo on loan from AFC Bournemouth in January. Martin O’Neill had utilised him regularly at Celtic Park when available for selection.

The Mexico international struggled for a prominent role under Andoni Iraola at the English club.

His decision to join Celtic paid off immediately as the left-back played 1,103 minutes from 13 matches.

However, his season came to an end in March after he suffered a hamstring injury. He has been on the sidelines since then, while there’s uncertainty on his continuity at Celtic Park.

The 24-year-old’s displays would have convinced O’Neill’s side to extend his stay beyond his loan spell.

Mexico rumours dismissed

The latest claims mention Cruz Azul and Monterrey as options for the Bournemouth man in the summer.

Record in Mexico relay it, earlier British claims of Celtic’s option of negotiating a deal to retain Julián Araujo and then provide their own updates.

Due to his injury, the Mexican’s chances of making it to the World Cup is very slim.

Record journalist René Tovar reports this and then looks at the latest transfer links. He states there’s been no offers or contact with either Cruz Azul or Monterrey. This should give Martin O’Neill’s side hope to try and retain him at Celtic Park.

As of now, the former Barcelona man’s future with the Scottish champions remains uncertain. That’s because ‘so far nothing has been resolved’ with Celtic.

If Celtic are willing to buy him, the operation will cost them around €10m. There’s no mention of the possibility of extending his loan for another season. If they fail to find an agreement with the Premier League side, Araujo has to return to Bournemouth.

Contract, value and agent info

The fullback left the La Liga winners for Bournemouth in August 2024 and played 591 minutes from 14 matches.

Due to the restricted role, the Cherries could look to offload him permanently in the next window.

His contract expires in 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €8m.
