Celtic will host Sturm Graz in the Europa League on Thursday. Brendan Rodgers’ side will be looking to secure a win to bounce back from their disappointing league defeat to Dundee United.
The Austrian club enter the European clash after a 4-3 win over FC Blau-Weiss Linz at the weekend. Their goalkeeper, Oliver Christensen, suffered an injury and was replaced by Matteo Bignetti.
After Sunday’s match, Sturm Graz manager Jürgen Säumel confirmed Christensen had picked up a muscle injury. He was also hopeful the stopper would be fit to face Celtic.
Kleine Zeitung now report the 26-year-old’s ‘participation on Thursday is in jeopardy’.
It’s claimed there were no serious injuries to outfield players, but that isn’t the case with Christensen, who’s on loan from Fiorentina.
According to the newspaper, the Dane’s injury is worse than initially thought and this was confirmed after an MRI scan on Monday. The extent of the damage hasn’t been detailed, but it is said to be worse.
Sturm Graz sporting director Michael Parensen fears Christensen won’t be able to feature against Celtic. He kept five clean sheets and conceded 14 goals from 13 matches.
If Christensen were to miss the match, Bignetti is expected to start at Celtic Park. Kleine Zeitung say the latter is relaxed about the possibility of facing Brendan Rodgers’ side.
