Celtic and Brendan Rodgers are making an effort to keep Paulo Bernardo at the club for longer, according to reports from Lisbon.

Newspaper A Bola today features a story where they highlight recent quotes from Callum McGregor, who praised the Portuguese player when speaking to the Scottish media.

The outlet then recalls that Celtic could buy Paulo Bernardo for a €7.5m fee, as that’s an option included in the loan deal with Benfica.

The Bhoys, however, are ‘trying to negotiate’ for a smaller price. There’s no clear information whether they’re succeeding in the talks, as it’s just said the midfielder may not return to the Eagles.

Paulo Bernardo had ups and downs at Celtic this season. Even though he held a starting place in the team in a sequence between late December and early February, he spent most of his time being an option from the bench and being used in the final minutes of matches.

That’s why the Scottish side won’t just trigger the buying clause and now try to negotiate for a fair price. He’s valued by Transfermarkt at €3m.
