Earlier on Friday, we relayed news from Belgium that KAS Eupen would not be letting Celtic target Henry Onyekuru go unless they found a replacement.
Fast forward a few hours, and there’s some very good news for Brendan Rodgers, as Het Nieuwsblad in Belgium are reporting Standard Liège winger Jean-Luc Dompé is already training with Eupen ahead of a proposed move.
The 21-year-old winger’s arrival should, if Eupen’s director of football Josep Colomer is a man of his word, allow Henry Onyekuru to negotiate a transfer to Celtic Park, or to one of the many other teams interested in his services.
The Nigerian winger decided to go missing on Thursday as he tried to force a move away from Eupen, deliberately missing the club’s game against Standard Liège that evening, which ended 2-2.
Celtic are reported to have made a €1-1.5m bid for the 19-year-old starlet, yet Eupen are allegedly holding out for somewhere in the vicinity of €3-4m for their prized asset.
A door has opened for the Bhoys. All they need to do now is double that bid and Onyekuru should be theirs.
