The Scottish media appear to have irritated their counterparts in Seville.

The Scottish Daily Mail claimed this week that Celtic have interest in signing Antonio Barragán, who currently plays for Real Betis. It was reported they’d ‘run checks’ on a transfer, after Neil Lennon refused to reveal his transfer target for the Bhoys.

The claims spread to The Scottish Sun, and that’s where Estadio Deportivo saw them. They then contacted the player’s agency who explained that Celtic haven’t even been in touch and there’d be no point in them doing so anyway.

Barragán has ‘no intention’ of joining Celtic or any other club.

The 32 year old intends to stay at Betis and either leave on a free transfer next summer or renew his contract with the La Liga club.

It’s unlikely there’s been Celtic contact with Betis either, because the player’s agency and Estadio would have have likely found out about it.

This story clearly isn’t one being pushed by the player’s camp.
