Celtic have improved their squad for the second half of the season, with Martin O’Neill’s side bringing in five new players to Celtic Park in the winter market.
This includes Joel Mvuka, who moved on deadline day. Celtic signed him from FC Lorient on a loan deal with an option to buy.
Earlier this week, FC Lorient manager Olivier Pantaloni expressed his unhappiness over letting Mvuka move to Celtic. The coach insisted he was comfortable at the Ligue 1 side even though the player didn’t enjoy regular minutes.
Mvuka’s loan move to Celtic not only disappointed Pantaloni but another club as well. Denmark’s Bold report FC Nordsjælland showed serious interest in him during the last window.
The 23-year-old has played 556 minutes from 15 Ligue 1 matches this season and that includes only five starts.
His situation at the French club caught the attention of Celtic, Nordsjælland and other unnamed clubs. Bold are mainly focusing on the Bhoys and the Superliga side.
The Danish club set their sights on the Norwegian and were keen on securing his services. They even made an approach in the winter market.
According to the report, Nordsjælland held talks with the player to convince him to join them. Their attempts to convince the forward, who can also operate as a wing-back, were unsuccessful because of Celtic.
O’Neill’s side eventually got ahead of Nordsjælland and other clubs to win the race for Mvuka’s signature. He is yet to make his debut for Celtic.
The attacker joined Lorient from Bodø/Glimt in January 2023. The latter have sent him out on loan to the Norwegian club, Young Boys and Celtic.
