Two days ago, La Dernière Heure stated VfL Wolfsburg’s Koen Casteels is on top of Celtic’s list to replace Joe Hart, who has already announced his retirement. It was also reported Brendan Rodgers’ side have made contact to sign him.
On Wednesday, Het Nieuwsblad reported Celtic will have to battle it out with Anderlecht for the 31-year-old.
Casteels has decided to look for a new challenge when his deal expires in June, and Het Laatste Nieuws state Celtic could be an option.
He’s not clear where he will play next season but is likely to be away from Germany.
“It is not yet 100% certain where I will be under the bar next season,” he said.
HLN say the Belgium international has already held talks with other clubs, without sharing the details of these teams.
When discussing his preference back in March, Casteels explained: “I especially want to continue for years to come, because I still feel very good. I want a sporting project. The sun can shine, yes.”
The report says he will have to compromise with the weather, if he were to join Rodgers’ side.
Celtic are in the market for a goalkeeper to replace Hart and can offer Champions League football to Casteels. HLN say ‘those are assets’ for the Scottish champions to convince him to pick them over Anderlecht.
The goalkeeper ‘wants to arrange the move as quickly as possible’, before the Euros, and whether he will end up at Celtic, Anderlecht or another club remains to be seen.
