Coming through the ranks at Dijon FCO in France, Sory Doumbouya even managed to make the bench a couple of times in Ligue 1 in 2018.
He never came on, but it showed there was promise there, only for him to leave on a free in 2019 to AS Saint-Priest in National 2, and then switched to Rodez Aveyron Football’s B team this summer.
We’ll have to see if he makes the Ligue 2 club’s first-team before the end of the campaign, but even with that quick downfall, he still has a number of scouts looking at his progress, including some from Celtic.
That’s according to Actufoot, who report a few clubs in Europe are keeping an eye on him, especially in Switzerland, with both FC Sion and FC Bâle keeping tabs on his development.
Not only that, but Celtic ‘have also taken information regarding the number nine’s situation’, suggesting they liked what they saw during his time at Dijon and are potentially eyeing up an opportunity for a player who could still develop into a good player.
We’ll have to wait and see if the Parkhead based club decide to make their move in the coming months, but it certainly wouldn’t be the first time Neil Lennon’s side have found players in unexpected places around Europe.
One to certainly keep an eye on.
