Celtic defender Mikael Lustig has confirmed to the Swedish media he’s had to withdraw from the Sweden squad for their upcoming games. The full back picked up an injury at the weekend during Celtic’s clash with Inverness.
Lustig has told Aftonbladet he won’t be involved in Sweden’s World Cup qualifier against France, followed by the friendly with Hungary, due to taking a knock on his foot on Saturday.
The Swede revealed he would be remaining in Glasgow to recover from the injury, receiving treatment from Celtic, but said the scan didn’t show he had a bad injury. However, Lustig will be out of action for at least seven days.
“Sorry, I will not being going, I’ll be staying at home in Glasgow. I did a have a scan which showed nothing serious, but it’s bad enough that I can’t play for seven to ten days,” said the Celtic star.
Sweden face the rather hard task of having to play France in Paris on Friday night. With the Netherlands also in their group, and with just one automatic place up for grabs Sweden face a tough task to qualify for Russia 2018.
