On August 15th, Index.hr reported that Celtic’s interest in Rosenborg’s Birger Meling is ‘growing louder’ and it was believed he would be an ‘ideal’ replacement for Kieran Tierney, who joined Arsenal earlier this month.
A day after the claims, the Norway international stressed that there has been no official approach from Neil Lennon’s side for his services.
Rosenborg face Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League play-off and Croatian outlet Index.hr once again provides a short update.
It’s claimed the Bhoys’ scouts are satisfied with the left-back’s performances after having watched the 24-year-old in action.
The first leg between Rosenborg and Dinamo Zagreb will take place later today and the return leg is scheduled for next week.
Index.hr states the defender is more likely to join Celtic as Tierney’s replacement after the European fixtures.
The report, however, doesn’t specify whether or not the transfer would take shape if Dinamo are knocked out of the competition. That’s because Meling earlier admitted it would be difficult for him to leave Rosenborg, if they make it to the group stages of the Champions League.
