With the Champions League set to kick off this week, there is a lot of talk about upcoming match ups, including Celtic’s opener against in-form Feyenoord.
The Dutch side enter the competition on the back of a 6-1 win over Heerenveen, which scouts sent by Brendan Rodgers watched from the stands on Saturday.
De Telegraaf state the Celtic delegated were left ‘shocked’ in their De Kuip seats at the Eredivisie club’s display this weekend, and what they showed had them sitting there ‘wide-eyed’.
The problem for them, aside from returning to Scotland with tons of notes about how to counter Arne Slot’s men, is figuring out different scenarios to counter who will play up front.
They know it won’t be Santiago Giménez, who is currently suspended for the first two games of the Champions League, and it won’t be Ayase Ueda, who is injured.
Those are two natural striker in the team, leaving Slot with a decision to make, and Celtic with a lot of work to do.
However, the analysts on the FC Rijnmond Podcast van Rijnmond, Dennis Kranenburg and Dennis van Eersel, relayed by FR-Fans, reckon the player with the ‘best credentials’ is Ynakuba Minteh.
For those who aren’t aware, the winger is a new arrival at Feyenoord, coming in on loan for the season from Newcastle.
He wasn’t expected to be a big part of the squad originally, but has quickly demonstrated admirable qualities in attack, scoring two goals and picking up an assist in 158 minutes of football in the Eredivisie spread over five appearances.
They have more experienced options to choose from, but it’s the youngster’s energy and pace could be ideal to disrupt a weaker than usual Celtic defence, who will be without Cameron Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh and Mark Nawrocki.
