Celtic are continuing to push for the signing of Real Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan. There are fresh claims suggesting the Scottish champions are hoping to wrap up the transfer in the coming days.
The Hoops have been heavily linked with the Egyptian international in recent weeks. Reports from Spain previously stated they had submitted a €4m (£3.5m) offer. However, they were told Real Oviedo were looking towards the player’s €12m (£10.4m) release clause.
Last Sunday, Spanish reports claimed Liverpool had entered the race for Hassan, although Celtic appear to have remained firmly engaged in negotiations with both the player and Real Oviedo.
Now there is fresh optimism from a well-connected source in Brazil.
Talks progressing
Journalist Pablo Oliveira reports Celtic are in negotiations to sign Hassan. Moreover, they remain in frequent contact with the player’s representatives as they work to finalise the move to Glasgow.
According to the report, if everything goes to plan, the expectation is for the deal to be completed next week.
No details are provided regarding the current stage of negotiations between Celtic and Real Oviedo, or whether the Scottish champions have increased their previous offer.
Fee remains the key issue
Haissem Hassan has attracted growing interest following his performances for Egypt at the World Cup. This has increased the attention around his future after Real Oviedo’s relegation from La Liga.
Recent reports from Spain have insisted the Segunda División club are continuing to point interested sides towards the €12m (£10.4m) release clause in the winger’s contract. Meanwhile, claims have also suggested Celtic could be preparing to improve their initial proposal to around €7m (£6.1m) or €8m (£6.9m).
That would still leave a gap between the two clubs’ valuations. The financial aspect of the negotiations is still the biggest hurdle to overcome.
Oliveira’s information nevertheless points towards confidence from the Celtic side that an agreement can be reached. If that proves accurate, the next week could be decisive in determining whether Brendan Rodgers secures another attacking addition ahead of the new season.
