Celtic suffered a 3-1 loss to FC Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday. It was their first defeat since Brendan Rodgers’s departure in October.
The Danish club dominated Celtic and were superior at the MCH Arena. They had 60% possession and made 23 attempts, of which 12 were on target. The Bhoys had three of their five shots on target.
Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel impressed for the visitors but couldn’t stop the defeat.
Ekstra Bladet reports the Denmark international repeatedly appeared frustrated during the game.
They say he was ‘clearly not satisfied’ with Celtic’s performance against Midtjylland. After the match, the Danish media caught up with the 39-year-old’s Celtic teammate, Benjamin Nygren.
The 24-year-old winger was asked to share his views on Schmeichel’s frustrations during the game. Nygren said he understands the stopper’s reactions.
“Well, of course. We are all really irritated. None of us want to lose games. We want to win every game, so of course we aren’t satisfied,” he said.
Schmeichel has kept eight clean sheets and conceded 16 goals from 17 matches for the Scottish champions this season. The Sweden international winger says he looks up to the Celtic stopper.
“Kasper is a really good keeper. He has had a really good career and has remained at a high level. He has played more than 900 professional matches, which is really impressive and something to look up to,” Nygren explained.
“I also think that as a teammate and leader he has a lot of good qualities that I can learn from.”
Celtic have four points from four matches and are currently 27th in the Europa League table, a point behind 24th placed Bologna.
