On June 7th, Ekstra Bladet reported that Brendan Rodgers & co. aren’t sure whether they can keep Matt O’Riley at Celtic.
The Denmark international finished the 2023/24 season with 19 goals and 18 assists from 49 games, and his fine displays for Celtic haven’t gone unnoticed.
Thursday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport claims AS Roma are looking at the Celtic star for the summer window.
In search of a midfielder ‘with goals’, the Serie A side explored the market in Italy and abroad, and have identified the 23-year-old and Hellas Verona’s Tomáš Suslov as their main targets. The Celtic player, for his part, is ‘ok with the idea’ of joining the Giallorossi.
O’Riley’s statistics are better than the 22-year-old Slovak, who managed four goals and five assists for Hellas Verona.
However, the newspaper argues that he played in a league that doesn’t have the same quality as Serie A. They point out the Dane couldn’t find the back of the net for Celtic in the Champions League, while managing three assists from six games.
O’Riley and Suslov are on the wish list, and Roma now have to make a final decision between the two players.
