In August, Boca Juniors’ Marcelo Saracchi joined Celtic on a season-long loan deal when Brendan Rodgers was in charge at Celtic Park. Martin O’Neill replaced Rodgers and returned to the club earlier this month upon Wilfried Nancy’s exit.

The Argentine football season ended in December, and Boca Juniors have been working on improving their squad for the new season. The Celtic player is proving an issue for them as they look to bring others in.

Last week, La Nación reported the Uruguay international is causing a problem for Boca Juniors even though he’s at Celtic. According to the Argentine FA, a club can’t have more than six foreign players in the squad.

The left-back is now at Celtic. However, La Nación stated he occupied a foreign slot at the Argentine club from January 1st. Given his loan ends in the summer, they had to register him for the season.

Therefore, they now have to find a solution for him to make that slot vacant so that they can sign another foreign player.

Bolavip now cover the latest on Saracchi’s situation at Boca Juniors. They say the current slots are occupied by Edinson Cavani, Ander Herrera, Carlos Palacios, Williams Alarcón, the Celtic player and Bruno Valdez.

Saracchi’s situation with O’Neill’s side and the ‘terms of his contract’ with Celtic could be key for Boca Juniors to resolve the foreign quota case in the coming hours.

Celtic permanent transfer would help, but isn’t happening

Bolavip state: ‘If Boca stipulated in Saracchi’s loan contract that they would commit to loaning the player out again, either to Celtic or another club, when he returned from his loan spell, he would no longer occupy a foreign player slot.’

If not, the South American club will have to find another solution to make room in the foreign quota. This may not necessarily impact Celtic. Boca Juniors, for their part, continue to work to find a solution.

One way out would be for Celtic to sign the player permanently this month, although that’s unlikely to happen.
