One of the hot topics of the summer for Celtic prior to the late Moussa Dembélé saga, Dedryck Boyata’s future is now all but sealed.
The Belgium international, whose contract expires in June, doesn’t appear set to renew, and the belief in his home country is he’ll be leaving at the end of the season, on a free.
DH look at four of their compatriots whose deals are set to run out in June, and they label Boyata as the ‘most wanted’, as many clubs around Europe have come to realise how solid the Celtic defender actually is, and his performances this season have backed that up.
Despite receiving offers last summer, Brendan Rodgers and co. refused to let him go, and the Belgian outlet believe the Scottish Premiership champions are now ‘paying the price’ for their stance.
Having decided to pass up on what was described as a ‘perfect situation’ for both player and club during the previous transfer window, Celtic will now have to, most likely, wave one of their key players goodbye come the end of the campaign.
And they’ll get absolutely nothing for it.
Boyata, on the other hand, will most likely get a rather large pay increase, wherever he ends up.
