Celtic have no plans to keep Tomas Cvancara this summer and will send him back Borussia Mönchengladbach at the end of his loan deal.
Sport BILD report that Celtic do not intend to take up their €8m option to sign the striker following his highly disappointing loan spell this season.
Celtic disappointment
The newspaper covers Gladbach’s various loan players today. They explain how they’ve fared over the course of this season while away from the German club.
While some are set for permanent exits, Tomas Cvancara will not be one of them. According to them, Celtic have no plans for the 25-year-old. They beat Rangers to his signature in January, but it hasn’t worked out.
He only managed to deliver at the beginning of his loan at Celtic, scoring two goals in nine games. He then missed the end of the season after undergoing groin surgery.
None of what he’s shown while in Scotland is enough to convince the Scottish champions to exercise their €8m purchase option. Cvancara will, therefore, be returning to Borussia this summer.
He has a contract with them until 2028 and could return to the squad in July. But the Bundesliga side aren’t planning to use him either.
Next moves
The hope had been that he would succeed in Scotland following a disappointing loan spell at Antalyaspor in the first half of the campaign. But that has not proven to be the case.
He ended up featuring in just 32% of the available minutes since arriving at Celtic towards the end of January.
While he managed goals in wins over Falkirk and Motherwell, as well as assists against Hearts and Kilmarnock, his numbers were not impressive.
The striker failed to manage more than 72 minutes in any of his appearances. He also didn’t feature after the 1-0 win over St Mirren in April.
Now he’s being shipped back to Borussia Mönchengladbach. They need to find another suitor and hope they can recover any of the €10.5m they paid to sign him in 2023. With a current valuation of €2m, that might be a difficult task.
