Celtic are in the process of finding a new permanent manager, after parting ways with Brendan Rodgers earlier this week.
Club Brugge manager Nicky Hayen is included in the Scottish club’s shortlist. On Thursday, the Belgian media reported Celtic haven’t contacted Club Brugge for Hayen yet. It was also stated they have to pay compensation as he signed an improved deal in June.
Voetbal Nieuws report Celtic have knocked on the 45-year-old’s door. Last season, the Bhoys drew 1-1 against Hayen’s Club Brugge in the Champions League.
This season, the Jupiler Pro League side defeated Rangers twice in Champions League qualifiers. His style of play and developing young players fits into what Celtic are said to be looking for in a new manager.
It’s claimed the Scottish Premiership winners can use ‘money, prestige, and the lure of Glasgow’ to tempt Hayen. Celtic sell more tickets and have more commercial strength than Club Brugge and play in Europe every season.
Club Brugge are reluctant to let the manager leave without hefty compensation. Voetbal Nieuws state Celtic can ‘lure him away’ from the Belgian club with a huge salary and by paying a fee to his current employer.
It feels like the Belgian media are indicating that Club Brugge are worried about losing Hayen to Celtic, especially after his latest remarks.
