Celtic are making a late attempt to sign FC Augsburg’s Arne Engels, according to Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg.

He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state that Brendan Rodgers’ side are pushing hard to bring the 20-year-old to Celtic Park.

The Belgium U21 international is also keen on joining Celtic before the window closes on Friday.

In fact, the journalist states the central midfielder has agreed personal terms with Celtic, after holding contract talks. It’s now down to the Scottish champions to find an agreement with the Bundesliga side.

At this moment in time, Brendan Rodgers’ side haven’t made an offer. Plettenberg states that could ‘change today’, indicating that Celtic’s bid could arrive in the next few hours.

The Belgian has four years left on his deal and Augsburg intend to retain him beyond this window. They are only willing to change their stance if Celtic were to offer a fee around €10-15m.

It’s not clear whether the Bhoys are willing to meet the asking price, but they should make an attempt soon to sign Engels before the window closes.
