Celtic face Atletico Madrid in Spain this evening, after the two sides drew 2-2 at Celtic Park in their first tie of the Champions League group.
That draw gave Brendan Rodgers’ side their solitary point of the competition so far, and qualification remains a long shot for the Glasgow club.
Atletico drawing against Celtic wasn’t expected in Spain, and therefore the return leg is being given a lot of coverage. Diego Simeone’s side are again expected to win, yet there’s perhaps a little more respect now.
Tuesday’s edition of Marca has an article dedicated to Luis Palma, who is called the ‘jewel’ of Celtic. The newspaper explains that before he arrived at Arias, prior to his move to Scotland, Palma’s agent had offered his client to more than 40 clubs.
He was desperate to get Palma into European football, and a chunk of the clubs offered the opportunity were in Spain. That they turned that opportunity down isn’t looking a great decision right now, believes Marca.
Should Luis Palma shine further for Celtic in this competition, then there’s going to be even more clubs kicking themselves.
