On December 28th, we carried a report from Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, who explained that Celtic are interested in signing Timothy Castagne of Atalanta.
It was further claimed in the same report that the Bhoys are ready to pay €6.7m in securing the right-back’s services and his agent will travel to Italy in order to discuss his client’s future with the Serie A club’s board.
In today’s edition of Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, there is a single line update about the 23-year-old and it is once again mentioned that Brendan Rodgers’ side are interested in the Belgian defender.
Castagne’s contract with his current employer will run down after the end of the 2019/2020 season and Gazzetta claims that Atalanta have valued him at €10m.
Before considering the Belgian’s exit in the mid-season transfer window, to Celtic or anywhere else, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side would like to bring in a substitute.
The asking price for Castagne in Gazzetta’s report is higher than what was mentioned by HLN and it should be seen if Celtic are ready to pay €10m for the fullback.
Brendan Rodgers will certainly be more minded to recruit after Saturday’s defeat to Rangers.
