Celtic are ‘hoping to receive’ an offer from Atlético Madrid for defender Josip Juranovic following his performances at the World Cup.
That’s according to Fichajes, who say the player managed by Ange Postecoglou is one of three signings that the Spanish side are eyeing up in the January transfer window.
They report that Atlético have a ‘serious problem’ in the upcoming window as they don’t have the financial leeway to make the signings that they want to make.
There is a small margin to bring players to the club and that could be boosted by departures, particularly if the likes of Joao Felix and Matheus Cunha depart as they would like.
The Celtic defender is considered one of ‘the most likely’ to join Diego Simeone’s side as they are in need of a new right-back.
That area has been a problem one for the club since Kieran Trippier’s move to Newcastle last January and Juranovic could be the answer.
He has been a ‘surprise’ at the World Cup, where he played a starring role in Croatia’s run to the semi-finals of the competition and impressed despite their 3-0 defeat to Argentina.
Celtic are ‘hoping to receive significant offers’ because of that, including one from Atlético, and he is valued at around €6m.
That makes him a ‘most affordable reinforcement’, something which makes him more attractive given the Spanish side have a need to find a player for the position.
Whether they make a move remains to be seen, but there is a feeling the Celtic player is on Atlético’s list of options and considered a potential signing they could definitely get over the line.
