The Portuguese media today brings their own take on Celtic’s attempt to buy Paulo Bernardo from Benfica.
As newspaper O Jogo features a story talking about Benfica’s potential sales this summer, they claim the 22-year-old is one of the candidates to leave the Lisbon side for good.
It’s stated that even though the loan agreement with Celtic included a €7.5m buying option, Brendan Rodgers’ side ‘claim they can’t afford’ that fee.
The talks between the clubs for a new deal is then ‘well underway’, with them trying to find a ‘common ground’ and make the transfer permanent.
Benfica are said to be demanding at least €6m for the sale, also guaranteeing a ‘considerable’ percentage of a potential future transfer.
O Jogo makes it clear that Paulo Bernardo is aware he’s not in the Eagles’ plans for next season, so it’s likely that the player will help the transfer go through.
The midfielder arrived at Celtic last summer, and in his season there on loan, he managed four goals and three assists in 33 appearances for the club.
