Celtic and West Ham have emerged as two of the main contenders for Yaser Asprilla, with the attacker now expected to leave Girona in the coming days. Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra reports that the former Watford man’s exit is imminent.
Martin O’Neill’s Celtic and Nuno Espirito Santo’s West Ham are joined in the transfer tussle by clubs including Marseille and Ajax.
At Girona, the 22-year-old sits within the City Football Group structure, which now accepts they failed to maximise his value in Spain. That internal assessment has pushed the group towards authorising a move during this window, which presents the opportunity for Celtic and West Ham.
Now both West Ham and Celtic have shown interest, according to Sierra, but they face competition. Ajax and Marseille are also tracking the situation, while unnamed clubs in Portugal and Germany have made contact as well. Interest has grown fast as word spreads that Girona are ready to negotiate the youngster’s exit.
Despite limited impact in La Liga, Asprilla still carries strong market value. His age and profile explain the wide list of suitors. West Ham see him as another young South American option with upside and resale potential. Celtic, meanwhile, continue to target players they can develop and showcase in Europe.
Celtic and West Ham opportunity

For now, no destination stands out as the frontrunner. Even so, the CFG appear prepared to act. Once talks advance, Asprilla’s next step should become clearer.
There’s no indication on whether Celtic or West Ham would be looking for a loan or permanent deal.
Yaser Asprilla has made 17 appearances so far this season, although his prominence is beginning to drop. That’s especially happened over the past three La Liga games. Against RCD Mallorca and CA Osasuna, he couldn’t get off the bench, and then only got 17 minutes against Espanyol. Last season was a disappointment too.
Celtic and West Ham have therefore been presented with an opportunity.
